We all love ice cream. It’s the treat we turn to for celebrations, comfort, childhood joy, and also during the days we feel a bit low. But here’s a thought — when was the last time you read the ingredient list on your favorite tub of ice cream?
Words like E102, INS 471, and Artificial Flavouring Substances often appear on the label, but what do they really mean for your health and your child’s well-being?
Let’s decode what’s actually in most commercial ice creams, and why making an informed choice matters more than ever.
Bright mango orange. Neon strawberry pink. Vibrant blueberry purple. These colors don’t come from fruits — they come from lab-made dyes like Tartrazine (E102) and Allura Red (E129).
While they make ice cream look attractive, studies have linked these synthetic colors to issues like:
In fact, some countries now require warnings on foods containing these dyes. So, that pretty scoop? It may be doing more than just delighting the eyes.
Mango, strawberry, vanilla, Pista — most commercial ice creams don’t use much of the real thing. Instead, they rely on artificial or “nature-identical” flavours, which are chemicals made to mimic the taste of real ingredients.
These artificial compounds are used because they’re cheaper and longer-lasting than real fruit or spices. But do they offer any nutritional value? NONE.
And while approved for use, some of these flavor chemicals have raised concerns over long-term effects on health and allergies, especially in children.
Preservatives like Sodium Benzoate (INS 211) are often added to ice cream, especially fruit-based ones, to extend shelf life.
But some studies suggest a possible link between these preservatives (when combined with synthetic colors) and behavioral issues in kids. Plus, sensitive individuals may experience allergic reactions or digestive issues.
Would you choose longer shelf life over peace of mind?
At Ksheeram Ice Cream, we asked ourselves a simple question:
“Why can’t ice cream be made the way it used to be with real ingredients and nothing to hide?”
That’s why we craft our ice creams using:
Because we believe that what brings joy shouldn’t compromise health, especially for our little ones.
As a conscious consumers, we all want to make better choices.
So next time you’re picking a treat for your child or a dessert for yourself, flip the tub and read the label. If it looks like a chemistry chart, maybe it’s time to look elsewhere.
At Ksheeram, we’re not just selling ice cream. We’re offering peace of mind, one honest scoop at a time.
